Top Rope Leader Resources
The field handbook is one part of a complete training module. As the Foreword puts it:
Together with an accompanying Instructor Agenda, Lesson Plans, Participant Evaluation Form and Competency Vetting Form, it forms a complete module intended to facilitate training of volunteer Top Rope Rock Climbing leaders by qualified ACC volunteers, professional outdoor educators, or guides.
The instructor agenda and the Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) form — the assessment a section completes before clearing someone to teach — are transcribed in full below, each with a Print or save as PDF button.
Instructor Agenda and Lesson Plans
The four-day instructor schedule and the fifteen lesson plans that make up the Top Rope Rock Climbing Leader course, each cross-referenced to a chapter of the field handbook.
Instructor Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition
The PLAR form a section completes before an instructor delivers the Top Rope Rock Climbing Leader course, with the ten competencies and the prior-learning criteria for each.
Participant Evaluation Form
Instructors complete this form for each participant, scoring the same ten competencies that the PLAR checks. It is a form to fill in rather than a document to read, so it stays a PDF rather than a page.
Participant Evaluation Form — PDF, 3 pages, English. Includes the competency scoring grid, the 1–6 rating scale, and the DACUM (Developing A Curriculum) chart — the job analysis that every competency on these forms derives from.
